Phyllis Thunborg and Lynn Hightower startedAMERICANA APPRAISALS AND ESTATE SALES in 1987 when they decided to diversify their individual antique and appraisal businesses. Both are members of the prestigious American Society of Appraisers (ASA),one of the few appraisal societies to require testing of knowledge in appraisal theory and areas of specialization. Both appraisers have been tested in Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). Their appraisal clients include banks, lawyers, realtors, investment and trust companies, insurance companies, and estate executors. Donation, divorce, insurance, estate and probate appraisals are performed by Americana’s knowledgeable, qualified appraisers. Expert witness services are also available.
Lynn Hightower, a NMSU graduate, started Country Elegance Antiques in 1982, specializing in antique furniture, textiles and linens. Lynn has completed classes in Textiles, Prints, Insurance and Moving Appraisals, Appraisal Standards and Report Writing, USPAP Certification, and Code of Ethics. She has passed the rigorous testing for specialization in Antiques and Decorative Arts through the American Society of Appraisers. Lynn serves as President of the New Mexico Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers. She is designated as an A.S.A. Accredited Senior Member.
Phyllis Thunborg, a UNM graduate, started the Americana New Hexican Antique Store in 1968 and has been appraising since 1980. Phyllis is an Accredited Senior Appraiser in the American Society of Appraisers who has passed the rigorous testing for specialization in Antiques and Decorative Arts. She has taught the Antiques Class through the Continuing Education Division at UNM for 22 years. And the famed PBS television show,Antiques Roadshow, has called upon her expert skills..
